Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) is a private non-profit institute for applied social sciences based in Vienna, Austria.

ZSI implements research and application projects on the social embedding and impact of all types of innovations and contributes to the design and diffusion of socially accepted and sustainable innovations to meet global challenges.

By deployment of innovative research, education, advisory services and co-ordination of networks, ZSI creates new knowledge, reflects and configures existing knowledge, evaluates measures, develops concepts and forwards their implementation.

As independent and globally acting scientific institution, ZSI is engaged in the development of theories, methodologies and instruments as well as in the dissemination of a broad innovation approach, contributing also to the implementation of the SDGs.

The institute’s employees apply a set of methodological competences and skills in a broad range of thematic areas with expertise in many world regions, an in particular in responsible research and innovation (RRI) and its domains.

ZSI has a long history of cooperation with and in the Western Balkans, e.g. setting up a regional research programme, supporting the Steering Platform on Research and Innovation for the WB, running the information platform WBC-RTI.INFO and other activities supporting research and innovation management.
