“Science was our salvation, it opened our horizon to something bigger”
Detina and Argita Zalli
Gender-aware policies and processes include aspects such as gender balance at all career levels, considering gender aspects in recruitment and career progression and in particular in leadership and decision making.
It is also important to break down and challenge gender stereotypes (in science and beyond) and to raise awareness about gender-sensitive investments to achieve these goals.
Work-life balance and an appropriate organisational and workplace culture play important roles.
In particular, measures against gender-based violence, including sexual harassment need to be put in place.
Last but not least, also the integration of the dimensions of sex and gender in research content and teaching is an important dimension. Even new business opportunities can be created by responding better to customer needs and realities.
The corresponding outputs of gender aware research and innovation processes can contribute to social inclusion and equality.
